A sitting of the J.B. Koshy Committee, constituted to look into the issues faced by the minority communities of the State, will be held at the government guest house in the city on October 13 from 10 a.m.

Korean envoy to India calls on CM

Korean Ambassador to India, Chang Jae-bok, called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin at the Secretariat in Chennai on Tuesday. Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary V. Irai Anbu, Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Chennai Young-seup Kwon and senior officials were present, an official release said.

Monson remanded

Monson Mavunkal, the self-styled antiquity trader, was remanded to the custody of the Crime Branch till October 7.

The investigating agency sought the custody of the accused to interrogate him on a complaint that he had cheated a Pala native of ₹10 crore.

The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, which considered the request of the Crime Branch, remanded him till 5 p.m. on October 7.

Centre lets captive mines sell 50% coal

Coal mines that produce coal solely for their own use, known as ‘captive mines’ will now be allowed to sell 50% of their annual output in the open market, the government said on Tuesday.

“Availability of additional coal will ease pressure on power plants and will also aid in import substitution of coal,” the Coal Ministry said in a statement.

82 cases in Erode district

Erode district reported 82 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday taking the total number of cases to 1,02,592. While 97 persons were discharged, 1,029 continue to be under treatment.

An FIR has been registered with the Delhi Police Cyber Cell by the Delhi Metro after a fake website imitating the DMRC’s official web page was created, which provided employment opportunities to applicants and extorted money from them.

DMRC said the fake website — https://dmrccareer.in — is offering fake employment opportunities to respondents.

Four drug peddlers arrested

Four drug peddlers were arrested by the Special Operations Team of LB Nagar zone and 600 grams of ganja, 8 ML of hashish oil, a scooter and three mobile phones were seized from their possession.

Acting on specific information, the SOT team along with Meerpet police apprehended Varala Santhosh (19), Ravva Philips Kalyan (35), Syed Aziz (23) and Burse Narendra Srinivas (24).
