For the first time, the Vijayawada airport is going to have a direct flight to Mumbai every day. The service by SpiceJet will begin on Sunday, May 26.
Speaking about the service, the airport’s Director G. Madhusudhan Rao said Boeing 737-800 aircraft with a seating capacity of 168 persons, including 12 business class seats, would be operated by the carrier, which inducted aircraft from Jet Airways recently.
After departing from Mumbai at 11.30 a.m., the flight will arrive at the city airport at Gannavaram by 1 p.m. It will depart from the city airport at 1.30 p.m. and reach Mumbai by 2.55 p.m., a one and a half hours journey. The price for the service starts at ₹4,500.
Currently, there is a tri-weekly service to Mumbai by Air India Express on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday.
The maiden flight from Mumbai to Vijayawada will be formally welcomed with a water cannon salute.
