House-to-house search carried out at village close to TN border
The police launched cordon and search operations in Chittoor and Madanapalle sub-divisions in the early hours of Sunday, leading to the seizure of 41 motorbikes found without valid documents.
The operations were conducted simultaneously at Chittapara village of Gudipala mandal near Chittoor, and Irani Colony of Vayalpadu town near Madanapalle.
Speaking to the media, Superintendent of Police Ch. Venkata Appala Naidu said that at Chittapara and surrounding hamlets 39 bikes without valid documents were seized. As the area is close to the Tamil Nadu border, the raids assumed significance in the backdrop of the election to the Vellore Lok Sabha constituency.
The cops conducted a house-to-house search and verified Aadhaar and ration cards, as the village is known for harbouring stolen goods and giving shelter to inter-State gangs.
In the second operation, the police seized two bikes without documents at Irani Colony in Madanapalle division. As the area was prone to movement of strangers, the raids were conducted, the SP said.
Mr. Appala Naidu said that about 150 police personnel led by Deputy SPs Eeswar Reddy (Chittoor) and Vamsidhar (Madanapalle) took part in the drive. He appealed to the public to bring to the notice of the police through Dial 100 or the police WhatsApp number 9440900005, if they found movement of strangers and any suspicious elements.
