Here are the details of the trains, introduced by the Indian Railways for pilgrims travelling between Chennai and Sabarimala.
As pilgrims gear up to visit Sabarimala this month, the Southern Railways has introduced special fare trains from Chennai to help them reach the hill shrine in Kerala. The trains will operate between Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram and Chennai-Kollam from mid-November to early December.
Here are the details of the trains:
Trains between Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram
The Southern Railways will be operating two special fare trains between Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram. The trains are scheduled to depart from the Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M G Ramachandran Chennai Central station at 7 pm on November 21 and 28 and will reach Trivandrum at 11.45 am on November 22 and 29 respectively.
The special train will make stops at Arakkonam, Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu and Palakkad in Kerala.
On the return journey from Trivandrum to Chennai, the trains are scheduled to depart at 03.45 pm on November 20 and 27. The trains will reach the Chennai Central at 09.45 am on November 21 and 28 respectively.
Bookings for 2A, 3A and Sleeper Classes commenced on November 6.
Trains between Chennai and Kollam
Three special fare trains will run between Chennai and Kollam. They will depart from Chennai Central at 08.30 pm on November 15, 22 and 29, and will arrive at Kollam at 12 pm on November 16, 23 and 30 respectively.
The trains from Chennai will stop at Arakkonam, Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu and Palakkad and Ottapalam in Kerala.
The return journey from Kollam to Chennai will have trains departing at 3 pm on November 17, November 24 and December 1. The trains will reach Chennai Central at 07.20 am on November 18, November 25 and December 2 respectively.
Bookings for 2A, 3A and Sleeper classes in the trains had commenced on November 7 from 8 am.
