This Morning’s Josie Gibson shares cryptic posts after Phillip Schofield’s exit

Phillip Schofield’s This Morning departure addressed by hosts

Josie Gibson has quickly become a favourite on the This Morning sofa, so fans’ eyebrows were raised when she shared a cryptic message after Phillip Schofield left the ITV show.

The Bristol-born presenter, 38, who shot to fame after winning the eleventh series of Big Brother in 2010, has presented the show alongside both Schofield, 61, and Vernon Kay, 49.

She’s amongst the favourites to take over the presenting duties alongside Holly Willoughby, 42, when the show returns from its summer break in September.

Although Josie hasn’t paid tribute to her former co-host, she has taken to Instagram to post a series of cryptic messages about “seeing clearly” and “being thankful”.

One quote read: “I think the most beautiful thing in the world is watching the light comes (sic) on in someone’s eyes, after they’ve been lost in the dark for so long”.

Another quote, which she shared to her Instagram stories for her 415,000 followers, simply said: “Remember being happy doesn’t mean you have it all. It simply means you’re thankful for all you have.”

Josie is yet to comment on Phillip leaving the show, unlike her This Morning colleagues, celebrity chef Clodagh McKenna, 48, and Rochelle Humes, 34. She has, however, paid tribute to another member of the team that recently left.

Last week, Josie posted a picture of her sitting with digital producer Ella Bates on the set of Coronation Street with the caption: “The day we all got caught in the rain at @coronationstreet while filming @thismorning and then the sunshine came out….when I say sunshine I mean @ella.bates beautiful face..Ella I am so so sad to see you leave us. You lighten up any room with your magical energy. You are Golden my friend and your going places with that special energy of yours. I know your going to live out your dreams but we are going to miss you so very much.”(sic)

Josie joined This Morning back in 2019 as a competition announcer before getting her first shot as a co-presenter in 2021 when she was a last-minute stand-in for Holly Willoughby when she was taken ill.

After impressing ITV bosses and fans, she has since gone on to present the show with co-hosts including Craig Doyle, 52, Dermot O’Leary, 49 and Andi Peters, 52, whilst show regulars Phil and Holly took a break.

Josie has also starred in a string of other programmes including Celebrity Wedding Planner, The Jump and Celebrity Dinner Date. In 2013, she released a fitness DVD after losing six stone and going from a size 20 to a size eight.

Since Schofield’s shock departure at the weekend, ITV has said that Holly Willoughby, who has presented this morning since 2009, will remain at the heart of the show and will “co-present with members of the This Morning family”.

This is thought to be until the summer break, when a new permanent co-host will be put in place.

Announcing his departure from the show after weeks of speculation about the ongoing relationship between him and his former co-host, Phillip posted a statement to his fans which read: “I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story. Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind.

“I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love. So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future.”

This came just before an ITV spokesperson confirmed the news that a decision was agreed between Phillip and ITV and the host would step down with immediate effect.
