In a telling new interview with The Sunday Times, Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner revealed that she and Joe Jonas, whom she married in Las Vegas earlier this month, once parted ways during a rocky moment of their relationship.
“It was the worst day of our lives,” she told the outlet. But thankfully, they both quickly realized they wanted to be together. “For a second we both had cold feet, then 24 hours later we were both, like, ‘Never mind.'”
Turner revealed that Jonas helped her recover when she wasn’t in a good place mentally. Experiencing fame at a young age from GoT (she landed the role of Sansa Stark at age 13) and dealing with online critics took a toll on her.
“Having your adolescence being displayed in public, that’s something I really wish hadn’t happened,” Turner said. “Being in the age of social media when that’s happening, I think I would be a much saner person if I hadn’t been documented from 13 — your most awkward, uncomfortable, unsure-of-yourself years.”
Turner became “desperately unhappy” and a “complete mess” when social media trolls made her overly self-conscious as she grew up in her teen years. She sought professional help with a therapist after she “stopped having my period for a year” due to her eating issues.
The GoT star credits her now-husband with helping her overcome “this phase of being very mentally unwell.” Turner added, “He was, like, ‘I can’t be with you until you love yourself, I can’t see you love me more than you love yourself.’ That was something, him doing that. I think he kind of saved my life, in a way.”
Turner and Jonas secretly tied the knot in Las Vegas at A Little White Wedding Chapel after they peaced out early from 2019 Billboard Music Awards. The actress, who is in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, looked stunning in a Bevza silk jumpsuit with Loeffler Randall Gold Penny Knot Mules. In true millennial fashion, their wedding was shared on Instagram when DJ-producer Diplo uploaded footage from the ceremony to his Instagram Story.
