Seann Walsh defends Phillip Schofield after dealing with Strictly kiss backlash

Comedian Seann Walsh, 37, has compared the fallout from Phillip Schofield’s affair scandal to what happened to him following his now infamous kiss with Strictly Come Dancing partner Katya Jones.

Phillip Schofield, 61, has revealed he is “utterly broken and ashamed” after confessing to having an affair with a much younger colleague while married to now-estranged wife Stephanie Lowe.

The former ITV star has since departed This Morning, following reports of growing tension between himself and co-presenter Holly Willoughby, and has since resigned from his job entirely.

The revelation of his affair has caused a huge amount of public backlash, with Phillip apologising to those he had lied to and calling his actions “unwise, though not illegal”.

Back in 2018, Seann also felt the public’s wrath after he was pictured kissing his pro dance partner Katya during a boozy night out.

The fallout caused him to lose his relationship with his now ex-girlfriend Rebecca Humphries, and the star subsequently appeared to disappear from the spotlight for a while.

Seann took to Instagram recently to open up about his tough experience and to comment on how he thought Phillip must be feeling in view of his 205,000 followers.

The former I’m A Celeb star wrote: “It is very surreal watching what is happening with Phillip Schofield right now and knowing what that is like.

“You do not ever fully recover from that,” he added firmly.

Following Phillip’s confession, ITV released a statement confirming they will be launching an investigation.

ITV told “ITV can confirm that when rumours of a relationship between Phillip Schofield and an employee of ITV first began to circulate in early 2020 ITV investigated,” the statement said.

“Both parties were questioned and both categorically and repeatedly denied the rumours as did Phillip’s then agency, YMU. In addition, ITV spoke to a number of people who worked on This Morning and were not provided with, and did not find, any evidence of a relationship beyond hearsay and rumour.

“Phillip’s statement [on Friday] reveals that he lied to people at ITV, from senior management to fellow presenters, to YMU, to the media and to others over this relationship.”
