Lorraine Kelly, 62, has touched on how some people think her show is “cosy” as she clarified some tense moments on the series. Included among this were her differences with her former TV colleague Esther McVey, who she previously worked with while co-presenting ITV’s GMTV with Eamonn Holmes. The Scottish journalist has made it no secret that she and Esther didn’t get along while working on the morning show, insisting that she often deemed the latter’s controversial views as “toxic”.

People, especially politicians, think they’re coming on to do a cosy little show, and it’s really not!

She said in an interview with The Sun’s Fabulous magazine in June 2019: “People shouldn’t be toxic. I just don’t get it.”

Lorraine still appeared to be on bad terms with Esther in 2019 when she snubbed the Tory MP during an appearance on Good Morning Britain.

But now, the mother-of-one is opening up about their frosty relationship.

In a new interview with The Guardian, Lorraine was quizzed over the moment she seemed to snub her on air as she was asked if she’s “gone rogue”.

“People, especially politicians, think they’re coming on to do a cosy little show, and it’s really not!” she said.

Lorraine gave another example as she recalled having Jennifer Arcuri on the show.

“When Jennifer Arcuri was in … honest to God, I was sat in the studio watching her being all coy, going and she said literally nothing.

“So I just said: ‘What’s the point of you being on?’

“Who do you think you are to do that to the viewers? You should never take them for granted like that.”

Her comment was in relation to Jennifer’s GMB interview in November 2019 when she criticised the American entrepreneur for “not saying anything” after agreeing to come on the programme.

“What’s the point of you coming on TV to clear the air and then you don’t say anything?” Lorraine asked.

An unamused-looking Jennifer hit back: “I believe I said a few things.”

Meanwhile, in June 2019, Lorraine made headlines when she brushed off Susanna Reid’s comment on whether her co-host still remembered once working with Esther on their GMTV days.

Esther was sat in the studio as she waited for Lorraine’s response.

The former Daybreak star curtly replied: “Yep, Yes I do.

“Right, coming up after half past eight…”

Fans believed that Lorraine was implying she had nothing nice to say about her former colleague as the clip went on to amass millions of views online, having since become one of the most-watched viral videos from GMB.

Later that day, during a Q&A session, Esther went into detail about her ties to the TV personality, saying: “We used to share a dressing room.

“And she used to be on the programme afterwards, and obviously she used to be partnered with Eamonn Holmes. And then I was promoted to be partnering with Eamonn Holmes.

“But she’s great, and it was a great show, and I can’t believe it was 20 years ago, but never mind, it was really good at the time, really good fun.”

Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV.
