Anthony Mackie is no stranger to the Marvel world. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star has also been featured in several Avengers films, as well as the Captain America and Ant-Man franchises.
With so much experience in the Marvel cinematic universe, it’s safe to assume that Mackie knows a bit about how Marvel works. Now that he’s starring in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, he’s on a short list of actors who’s been in both a Marvel film and TV show.
Mackie recently shared his thoughts on the similarities between Marvel TV shows and films, as well as his opinion of Wandavision and what fans can expect with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Anthony Mackie says working on Marvel TVs shows is very similar to working on their movies
Mackie compared Marvel films and TV shows during a recent interview with Jemele Hill.
“You know what? The process was very similar to shooting a movie,” Mackie said. “It was just like we were shooting a six-hour movie, so it took longer. But it’s all the same people stunt-wise, tech-wise, camera-wise, from the movies, they’re just working on the shows now so I think that’s why with Wandavision and especially our show, you still keep the same feel as the Marvel movies, you just get six hours of it instead of two.”
He thinks ‘Wandavision’ did a great job setting up Marvel’s TV universe
Later in the interview, Hill asked Mackie what he thought of Wanadavision, another Marvel TV show that premiered in early 2020 to rave reviews.
“Well, I think Wandavision was a great starting point for the television version of the Marvel universe,” Mackie said. “Because it was so unique of a show, it was so different than anything you’ve ever seen before that’s been Marvel. That it gave the audience and everyone a new idea of what these shows could possibly be.”
Mackie also liked Wandavision because it showed viewers that there wouldn’t be a decrease in the quality of content they received on TV, in comparison to movie theaters.
“And it showed that the level of quality you’re used to with the movies, you’re still going to get that on television … I’m happy that it was such a success and people enjoyed it so much,” Mackie said. “Because the performances in that show were second to none. I mean it was really exciting to see everybody show up and play hard and it stay in the vein of the Marvel franchise.”
Anthony Mackie called ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ a starting over point
Mackie then noted that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be great for fans because it gives them a ton of information about future Marvel projects.
“I think what people will enjoy and really appreciate is the fact that with six hours you really get to know these characters,” Mackie said. “We get to get into their backstory, we get to know them as just unique individuals and how they fit into this new Marvel universe. Because this is basically a starting over point.”
Viewers can expect to see a lot of the same faces from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in upcoming Marvel films.
“I mean, Endgame was really the end game,” Mackie said. “So you developed a 10-year relationship with all of these characters, so now, introducing all these new characters, you have to give people a starting point to build those relationships. So when we get back into the film world, you’ll have the same love and appreciation for those characters that you did for the
